+ Jason Murray "Goliaths of the Pacific" opening reception 7 to midnight @ The KONA Gallery 412 North El Camino Real San Clemente, California, 92672 USA.
For the last ten years, a small group of skilled watermen has been chasing big swells around the world. Jason Murray, Quiksilver’s Director of Photography, followed along on their journey, documenting the madness as the surfers challenged nature, themselves, and big wave surfing’s limitations.

+ Matthew Brandt "Two Ships Passing" opening reception 6-8 pm @ M+B 612 North Almont Drive Los Angeles, California 90069
M+B is pleased to announce Two Ships Passing an exhibition of new work by Matthew Brandt. “Two ships passing” is a common saying describing the possibilities and often unresolved nature of love and connection. The show’s title borrows from this multi-layered expression—its ambiguity as well as promise of potential—to describe the peculiar interdependency between The United States and China.

+ Anthony Friedkin "The Surfing Essay" opening reception 6- 10 pm @ drkrm 727 S. Spring Street Los Angeles, CA 90014
Much of the essay was shot in the 1970’s, a particular time in the evolvement of surfing where lifestyles amongst surfers were wild and reckless, especially in Malibu and Venice. Many of the photos were shot during the “Dog Town” era, in Venice beach, then know at the time for it’s stark, decayed community and toughness. These are not your typical Southern California golden haired, perfectly tanned surfers standing with their board at sunset. These are warriors of the waves, at times intoxicated and high. In the tradition of Danny Lyon, these edgy, black & white photographs challenge our sense of what’s going on within this certain subculture at a particular time in Southern California history.

+ Blake Little "The Company of Man" opening reception + book signing 6:00-8:30 pm @ Western Project 2762 South La Cienega Blvd. Los Angeles, CA 90034
"I started photographing my friends and then friends of friends and eventually I traveled all over the country making pictures. Via the Internet, I was able to connect with this large but unseen network of men who share similar sensibilities. I identify with these men physically, emotionally and spiritually. I wanted to show the strength, integrity and personalities of the individuals I was fortunate enough to capture."

+ "Asco Valdez/Jacinto - 80s Portraits" opening reception 6-9 pm @ Thomas Paul Fine Art 7270 Beverly Blvd Los Angeles, CA 90036
The exhibition showcases rarely seen photography from Asco founding member, Patssi Valdez, and Louis Jacinto.

+ Robert Ferrone "Urban Decay" opening reception 6-10 pm @ Prohibition Gallery 6039A Washington Blvd Culver City, Ca 90232.

+ Tasya Van Ree opening reception 7-10 pm @ Edgar Varela Fine Arts 727 S. Spring Street Los Angeles, CA 90014
The sense of expansive awareness that for van Ree is a prerequisite to photography enables her to capture the small everyday flashes of insight that come when we are open to them and often go before we can fully grasp or appreciate them. Her extraordinarily vivid images are also a testimony to her eye for form and composition
