Chris McCaw "New Works" (12/15)

Chris McCaw's unique paper negative images ... literally track the sun, and are printed - in some cases perforated - by exposure to it. They have a look of instant antiquity, their aesthetics rhyming with early scientific imagery. They also redouble the indexical nature of traditional photo-chemistry at a moment when the universal solvent of digital imaging threatens to swamp any vestiges of photographic veracity.

McCaw's pictures speak to our anxiety about planetary climate crisis, to our sense of photography's impact on history, even to our cosmic luck in being mindful creatures of a planet nourished by starlight.
