IRIS Nights Katie Falkenberg "Bringing Issues to Light Through Photography"

“At the Remote Area Medical (RAM) clinic in southwestern Virginia, thousands of people gathered outside of the fairgrounds gate each morning before dawn, waiting for their number to be called so they could enter into the clinic to receive free dental, vision, and medical treatment ... Most of the people who came to the clinic said that if it were not for RAM, they would go without this vital care. People drove hundreds of miles and waited for hours, even days, sleeping in their cars and tents outside the fairgrounds gate, hoping to make the cut-off of those admitted. Still, at the end of the weekend, some people had to be turned away as time ran out.”

Come hear Katie speak of her work. She was originally based on the East Coast working for The Washington Times and recently moved to Los Angeles as a freelancer for the Los Angeles Times.

Registration opens today at noon for her talk next Thursday (Aug 26). Register here. (If you miss today, there's another round of registration tomorrow (Aug 19th) at 9:30 am.

Tomorrow night's IRIS Night talk will be Kitra Cahana "Welcome to Rainbowland". IRIS Nights is a weekly talk hosted by the Annenberg Space for Photography in Century City.
