Janette Beckman "Archive of Attitude" (8/12)

Punk boys, 1979: "This is a picture from Sid Vicious' memorial march right after Sid died.... Everybody seemed to really love Sid, and everybody was really sad that he died. He was kind of like an icon, like some kind of punk saint or something."

East L.A. girls, 1983: "I went to one of the girls' houses and they started to do some graffiti on the wall. You know how the helicopters are always buzzing [in L.A.] -- somebody must have radioed, and the cops came. We all had to run in the house and hide, and the mum hid me in this closet so I wouldn't get arrested."

Paul Weller and Pete Townshend, 1980: "They called this 'The Punk and the Godfather.' ... It was the meeting of two mod eras. I love the symmetry of it."

"I never studied, I never worked as an assistant for anybody. I guess in sort of true punk fashion, I made it up as I went along. I was always a rebel. I wanted to do it my own way. I wanted to go out and take pictures of what I wanted to do." - Janette Beckman
