Last Days of Kodachrome

"It's definitely the end of an era. It has such a wonderful color palette ... a poetic look, not particularly garish or cartoonish, but wonderful, true colors that were vibrant, but true to what you were shooting."

Steve McCurry had the privilege of having his roll of Kodachrome be the last to run through the only lab in the world that stills process that film, Dwayne's in Parsons, Kansas. McCurry took a few months to shoot the final roll from New York, then traveling to Bombay, India and Rajasthan, India, then back to New York and finally the last few frames at Parsons.

National Geography have been documenting this event so I expect a future airing of this event sometime in 2011 and as for the film itself ? It'll be retired to the Eastman House in Rochester, New York.
