TONIGHT : George Steinmetz @ IRIS Nights

Tonight, photographer George Steinmetz will be speaking at IRIS Nights @ Annenberg Space for Photography about his aerial work. For the past 12 years he's flown over the world's deserts photographing their landscape. His latest book is titled Empty Quarter: A Photographic Journey to the Heart of the Arabian Desert .
You've got to want it really bad, and you have to be somewhat prudent so that you can survive. You also have to be curious. I'm a real map nut. I'll look at a map and wonder what's out there. Places that are off of everybody else's radar are the places where interesting things can still be found. The worse the hotels, the better the pictures. If there is a Four Seasons, forget about it

He'll be speaking tonight from 6:30-8:00 pm. Currently it is all booked up but there's a standby line and from experiences, you have a pretty good chance of getting in. This is the last IRIS Nights for 2010.
