Found this on the APA-San Diego site and thought it was a fun idea and why doesn't LA do this ? It is an informal monthly meeting called "APA Focus" set in a social setting (translation to me : bars !). It is a chance for photographers to kick loose and just have a chance to meet each other.
According to the page, topics of discussion will be determined by the group. Topics may include: Marketing new and different work / Focusing your vision & establishing your brand / Attracting more clients / Designing marketing tools for your target market / Estimating and negotiating .
By the way, it is open to APA and non-members so all can come !
