Exhibitions at UCR/California Museum of Photography (2/6)

Agua En Espana : Photographs by Craig Richards and Henry Vaux, Jr. February 06, 2010 - April 17, 2010

The photographs in this exhibition are the result of a collaboration between a professional photographer, Craig Richards, and an amateur, Henry Vaux, Jr. Yet while Richards, a Canadian who has been exhibiting and publishing internationally for three decades, has the name that is known in the field of photography, it was Vaux’s profession that guided the photographic efforts of both men in Spain. Vaux is Professor Emeritus of Resource Economics at the University of California, Berkeley, as well as UC Riverside, and his specialization has been in the economics of water resources. He is also currently Chair of the Rosenberg International Forum on Water Policy, which provided an occasion for this photographic study when it hosted a 2008 conference in Zaragoza, Spain.

Mirjam Dröge "The Need To Hold Still"
February 06, 2010 - May 08, 2010

Mirjam Dröge pictures compelling psychological and physical spaces - spaces for escape, memory, and child-like reverie. This exhibition, which takes its title from a poem by the German-American writer Lisel Mueller, will feature a range of photographs completed by the artist over the past five years.

Ansel Adams At Work : The Fiat Lux Commission
February 06, 2010 - May 08, 2010

Besides his personal work as a nature photographer—his art—Ansel Adams took commercial assignments in order to support himself. Among these was a commission from the University of California to produce a book celebrating its centennial in 1968. The subject was the nine campuses that then comprised the UC system—Berkeley, San Francisco, Davis, Los Angeles, Santa Barbara, Riverside, San Diego, Santa Cruz and Irvine—and the book’s title was UC’s motto, Fiat Lux (Let There Be Light).
