To me January means two things 1) get my receipts together so I can send them to my tax guy and 2) get my friend Melanie and head down to Santa Monica for photoLA ! It's a yearly thing I do where I wander aimlessly around the hanger being inspired.
This year the weekend starts off with a bang at their Opening Night Benefit at Santa Monica Civic Auditorium on Thursday, January 14, 2010. Hosted by David LaChapelle and actor/photographer Chris Lowell, the night benefits the Wallis Annenberg Photography Department at LACMA. Tickets are $75, include one day pass to photoLA and can be purchase here.
Now running at the same time across the street at the DoubleTree the Center will once again host Review LA, a chance for photographers to get their work reviewed by galleries, agents, editors, and others. I missed the deadline for this one but you do get a chance to see what is shown on Jan 15, 5-8pm, Portfolio Viewing is open to the public.
There's some lectures scheduled also. Most are free with the day's admission, some are paid and schedule might change so check photoLA's programming page.
