Events This Weekend (6/18-6/21)

Okay, jumping the gun and posting events this weekend today since there's a lot going on in LA in the next few days. Some of these have already been posted in the past week with more info so you can just scroll down and find more links/info.


THURSDAY

: Over at CAAM (California African American Museum), their exhibition "The Tuskegee Airmen : The Journey to Flight" opens today, runs till Nov. 1st.

: Still time to register for the APA/LA + SAA MetaData seminar this afternoon starting at 4:15 at Helms Daylight Studio in Culver City. APA/LA

: Over at A&I Hollywood tonight, opening reception for Bryony Shearmur's "An Ode to Mali" from 7-10 pm. She'll be there to sign copies of her new book. Part of the sales of book/prints will benefit Kickstart.org, a non-profit organization. The exhibition moves to A&I Santa Monica on 8/27/09

: Since you're in Hollywood, you can always run down to Fahey/Klein on La Brea for two opening receptions for Shelby Lee Adams's "Appalachian Portraits" and Eugene Richards' "The Blue Room". 7-9 pm

FRIDAY

: Canon Explorer of Light George Lepp will be spending the weekend giving seminar and workshops in the South Bay. Full details here. South Coast Botanical Garden.

; Starting today and running through the weekend is Taschen Warehouse Sale here in Los Angeles. Two stores : Beverly Hills & Farmer's Market. LINK

: Not photo-related but fun, US Air Guitar Regional Championships over at Troubadour in WeHo. Starts at 8 pm.


SATURDAY

: APA/LA is doing a seminar "Digital Dissection with Dennis Dunbar" over at Helms Daylight Studio in Culver City 9:30 am - 1 pm. LINK

: Over at Laguna Beach Books at 4 pm, Harry Brant Chandler will be signing his new book "Dreamers in Dream City". Harry photographed and profiles 54 visionary Southern Californians. I believe photos from this book will be shown in downtown at a gallery but I'll have to dig around and see if I can find that info. You can read more about this book from a OC Register's article.

: Tracy Park Gallery ( 23410 Civic Center Way Malibu, CA 90265) will have a group photo show called "Live Nude Girls" with photos from Jack Guy, Mike Rosenthal, Christian Gibson, Alan Roderick Jones, Keith Lander and Victor Spinelli. 7-10 pm in Malibu. LINK

: Over in Larchmont Village at Noni Boutique (225 N. Larchmont Blvd.) there'll be another group show "Summer Love" with local photographers : B+, Dan Busta, David Oscar Flores, Grace Oh, Ito, Ixchel Lara, Robert Robert, Theo Jemison and Ryan Schude. 7-10 pm LINK

: Heather Cantrell - A Study in Portraiture: Act 1 opening reception at Kinkead Contemporary in Culver City. 6-9 pm.

: Near downtown ? Head over to drkrm (2121 San Fernando Road Suite 3 90065) for opening reception of Anthony Friedkin's "Gay, A Photographic Essay 1969 - 1972" from 7-10 pm LINK. BTW : Anthony is doing a seminar over at Samy's on the 23rd of June. Info here.

: And if you're already downtown, head over to Deborah Martin Gallery & Phyllis Stein Art (209 & 207 W. 5th St. 90013) will be doing a silent auction benefiting a "A Place Called Home" organization. 7-10 pm. Music/drinks/art LINK

: 2 pm, CAAM (California African American Museum) doing a reception and panel discussion for "Tuskegee Airmen : The Journey to Flight".

: 3 pm, MOCA will be showing a series of films examining Robert Frank. Series is free with admission to Robert Frank's "The American" currently on exhibition. INFO
