Events this Weekend (Aug 14-16)

So this time around I'm going to start adding photos of the photographer whose opening it is just to give you an idea of what they do. I'll be updating this page through the day as I find out more events, alright ? Cool.

"Alternative Photography" @ Julia Dean Gallery in Venice, CA. An exhibit of photographs from the sixth annual alternative photography contest. The exhibit features the work of 16 photographers who recognize and support the importance of alternative photography within the arts community. + Barbara Benjamin Marcus will be signing her new photography book "Inside Out" @ Book Soup 7-8:30 pm L.A.-based author and photographer Barbara Benjamin Marcus conducted interviews and shot revealing portraits of forty drag queens—both in and out of drag—in Los Angeles, Key West, New York City, Provincetown and Tampa....Inside Out was the winner in the Gay & Lesbian category at the 2009 San Francisco Book Festival Awards, and official runner up in the Photography/Art Category at the 2009 New York Book Festival. 8818 W Sunset Blvd 90069





+ Woodstock: The 40th Anniversary @ Duncan Miller Gallery . The exhibition features the works of Jim Marshall, Baron Wolman, Henry Diltz and Lisa Law. +ULTRA-ANGELES Kodachrome in 3-D: The Stereo Photography of Jack Laxer @ drkrm gallery. Like Julius Shulman, Laxer’s primary subject matter was the ultramodern architecture of midcentury America. However, unlike Shulman’s famous black and white 2-D images of private residential oases, Laxer’s work documented the ultramodern Main Streets of Los Angeles in a pristine palette of Kodachrome colors with a hyper-exaggerated stereo depth. 7-10 pm 2121 San Fernando Road Suite 3 Los Angeles, CA 90065
