Hollywood Outdoor Cinema

Not photography related but definitely LA-related ! You know that abandon Circuit City parking lot on Sunset Blvd across from KCET ? Well, Hollywood Outdoor Cinema has taken it over on Saturday nights ! Now, when I first heard of it, I thought to myself - yeah, yeah, whatever. I've been to many of these outdoor screenings before and they're okay. Fun to be outside but nothing really mind-blowing....until last night.

First of all, "Pretty in Pink" was screening and I have a certain fondness for 80s films and for Molly Ringwald =) It was a weird that it happen to be showing the same week John Hughes died. Ryan, the guy behind the event, spoke to the crowd how they had plan this 2 months prior and had no idea it would screen the same week as John Hughes passing. Ryan then introduced an editor here in Los Angeles who had cut together a tribute to John Hughes a few years back and put it on YouTube. We were lucky enough to see it on the big screen.

What I love about this event is they make it an event ! There was a photo booth where you can put on crowns and sashes and get your 'prom" photo taken. There was a Duckie dance off and a prom king & queen competition where winners won items such as Legally Blonde theater tickets and XBox 360 consoles. If you were hungry, there were those mobile Kogi-like trucks around. During the movie, people were clapping and whenever Ducky shows up, there were hooting and shouts of "Ducky !!!".

Honestly I didn't realized I would this much fun =)
