Events This Weekend (Oct 1 - 4)

:: T H U R S D A Y :: (October 1st)

+ Annenberg Space for Photography's IRIS Nights lecture series with Glen Ludwig from 6:30 - 8 pm. Fully booked but they do take stand-bys.

+ Curious about how to frame your work correctly ? The Whole 9 Gallery in Culver City (6101 Washington Blvd. 90232) is having Martin Sherman of Sherman Galleries talk about it plus you get 25% off your first framing order with Sherman Galleries of Marina Del Rey. + Okay, this is not technically an opening since this open last week but just wanted to give a heads up for the Retna/El Mac show at Robert Berman Gallery in Bergamot Station. For those of y'all who traverse La Brea, you'll probably notice this on the west side of the street just south of 3rd St (about 2 blocks from PIX Inc).

+ By the way, Oct 1st is the last day for Sebastiao Salgado: AFRICA @ Peter Fetterman Gallery so if you hadn't had a chance to catch it, do it today ! Gallery is open from 11 am - 6 pm.

:: F R I D A Y :: (October 2nd)

+ Fall Brewery Artwalk Sneak Preview @ I-5 Gallery (2100 N. Main Street, #A-9 90031 ) 7 pm

The Brewery Artwalk Association is pleased to announce the 'Fall Brewery Artwalk Sneak Preview' show of new work by artists that reside and/or have studios at The Brewery Arts Colony. As a precursor to the upcoming Artwalk the weekend of October 24-25, 2009, over 40 artists are exhibiting their work at I-5 Gallery. In most cases, the exhibiting artists have studios that will be open during the Artwalk. In a few rare instances, artists that have studios (which will be closed during the Artwalk) have chosen to be exhibited in this show.

:: S A T U R D A Y :: (October 3rd)

+ This weekend is the Museum Free-for-All ! 24 LA/OC museums will be free on Saturday and/or Sunday ! So get your art on and check out some exhibitions for f-r-e-e !

+ The Artist Entrepreneur Workshop: Public Relation and Marketing @ Gallery 825 (825 N. La Cienega Blvd. 90069) 10 am - noon.

Due to popular demand, ArtSpeak will host the return engagement of 25-year veteran marketing and promotion expert Carolyn Campbell. + Inaugural Exhibition and 15th Anniversary Celebration @ Blum & Poe as they open their new 21,000 sq ft space at 2727 S. La Cienega Blvd.



+ Ken Heyman @ Sundaram Tagore Gallery at 9606 S. Santa Monica Blvd. 90210 from 6:30 - 8:30.

Ken Heyman is one of the ten most influential photographers working today. He is known for his arresting images of human encounters and relationships. Narrowing the distance between photographer and subject, Heyman exposes his subjects' emotions and psychological character. He shot more than 150 assignments for Life magazine and has photographed luminaries such as Pablo Picasso, Marilyn Monroe, Andy Warhol, and Mother Teresa. For his first solo exhibition in Los Angeles, titled Humanity, Heyman presents diverse images shot in more than 60 countries. The show will chronicle the American photographer's prolific career, featuring works that have never been exhibited and resonate powerfully with a global audience. A special series of prints exploring Hollywood's golden years will also be on view. Ken Heyman will give a short talk to discuss his work and experiences at 6pm, before the opening cocktail reception.


:: S U N D A Y :: (October 4th)



+ REVO LA @ UCLA Ackerman Grand Ballroom (308 Westwood Plaza // Los Angeles, CA 90024). Okay, this event I'm excited for. they had the thought to actually list who would be in the show and include clickable links ! - there's about 5 photographers listed and I recognized a few. So click on the REVO link and check out the photographers and the other artists. Shepard Fairey was the only other one I recognized. The event is $10 and goes to a good cause. I think I might hustle down to Westwood for this one !

... the charity organization for humanitarian groups — hosts a multimedia art show featuring the work of over 20 painters, graphic designers, visual artists, and photographers. The cash raised supports rebuilding the educational system of West Papua, Indonesia by supplying and expanding the Sekolah Dasar Balem Wamena school, a rare model of progressive learning in the region. – Phil Kropoth

+ Okay, over in Pasadena is the Art+Design Open Market where more than 100 emerging artistis, faculty and alumni from Art Center and Pasadena City College will be selling their works of art in the One Colorado Courtyard from 10 am to 5 pm.

+ Karsh 100: A Biography in Images @ First Floor Galleries in the Richard J. Riordan Central Library. Ongoing until Jan 2010 - the galleries are open this weekend so why not stroll through and take a look at the master Yousuf Karsh !



+ Also over at the Rose Gallery in Bergamot Station, Jessica Lange's "50 Photographs'' will draw to a close on Oct 10th.

+ Hmmm...checked the Ace Gallery website and looks like Melanie Pullen "Violent Times" is still up and this time marked to end at end of October 2009. Strangely, it was only to be up until Feb 2009 but the end date kept moving....and moving...so now it is Oct.
