The Art of Photography photo competition

"Sukiyaki Western" series - Walter Lockwood 3rd Place 2009

“ The Art of Photography Show is the very best photography competition among all of the competitions which were represented at the APA/LA panel, by far. You guys stand alone as being a pure high-end photography exhibition, produced with excellence and with integrity.” - Jim McHugh APA/LA Vice Chair

One of the PIX Feed readers had sent me info about this competition. I remember posting about it back in 2009 and yes another year has pass and it is time for the 2010 edition.

The images you see above are the top three winners from the 2009 as judged by Charlotte Cotton, head of the Dept of Photography at LACMA at that time. This year, Natasha Egan, the associate director and curator at the Museum of Contemporary Photography in Chicago is your judge.

The selected images will be shown at Lyceum Theatre Gallery in San Diego from August 28 - November 7, 2010 and from what I gather, they get a large crowd. Close to 1,000 for the opening night last year and 30,000 over the course of 3 months. That's a lot of eyeballs ! The cost isn't as expensive as I thought it'll be - $25 for the first entry and $10 afterwards. No limits to how many entries. The deadline is June 1, 2010

All the wonderful details are right here.
