Los Angeles Times' Festival of Books (4/24 & 4/25)

While yes, the Los Angeles Times' Festival of Books is about books, there are two event of interest to the photo community. Photo-J Francine Orr and Jay L. Clendenin will be speaking of their experiences. First up is Francine Orr who will be giving a presentation on “Visual Storytelling” on Saturday April 24th 10-11:30 am

Los Angeles Times photojournalist Francine Orr is often in places where people’s stories are rarely told. She focuses her presentation on the intimacy of reporting and the trust and the gratitude people express when she tells their personal stories.

Then on Sunday, Jay L. Clendenin will talk about getting the shot from 3 to 4:30 pm.

Los Angeles Times photojournalist Jay L. Clendenin emerges from behind the lens to present the art, technique and craft of capturing that perfect shot.

Both will be presented at the Pavilion Stage. Besides photographers, there's some panel discussions I wanted to check out such as Rebooting Culture: Narrative & Information in the New Age, Inside Publishing, History: Los Angeles in the Limelight,Publishing: The Editors Speak Out plus Buzz Aldrin will be speaking of his book, Magnificent Desolation: the Long Journey Home from the Moon, and there's also a performance by The Watson Twins !

Check the schedule here. BTW : the tickets are free but Ticketmaster will charge a nominal fee ($1). Tickets are available at noon on Sunday (April 18) right here. Since the two photographer talks are outside at the LA Times Pavilion tent, no need to get tickets. For panels (indoors), you need tickets.
