Focus on AIDS 13 (5/2)

(photos from FOA 12)

I was alerted to this by Astor Morgan, the chairman of APA/LA that Focus on AIDS (FOA) 13 is currently looking for volunteers to help put with their upcoming auction.

Focus On AIDS is America’s largest and most prestigious auction fundraiser of rare, vintage and contemporary photographs in support of AIDS research, care and education. Founded in 1987, our twelve previous auctions have raised over $3 million, of which all net proceeds have been donated to leading HIV/AIDS initiatives around the globe.

Our nonprofit 501(c)3 organization is completely volunteer driven and is reliant on the generosity and resources of the greater photography community. Our auctions benefit our own Focus on AIDS initiatives (including a hospital in Mysore, India and an orphanage/shelter in Tanzania) as well as other global and local AIDS charities with proven records for outstanding research, education, and rehabilitation.

The upcoming auction, Focus on AIDS 13 offers both serious art collectors and photography lovers a chance to view and bid on some of the most celebrated and cutting-edge photography at an event that is renown for its elegance and essential good will.

Please check out their Volunteer page for more info.

On Friday April 30, 2010, FOA will host a preview party in conjunction with MOPLA's Official Closing Party @ Writer's Boot Camp from 7-10 pm at Bergamot Station. Come out to celebrate the end of this year's MOPLA as well as meet some of the FOA photographers and check out the some of the images to be auction off the following Sunday.

Some of the photographers donating their work are Jesse Alexander, Julie Blackmon, Jeff Bridges, Frick Byers, Brian Finke, Arthur Leipzig, Herman Leonard, Roxanne Lowit, Steve McCurry, Marc Riboud, Herb Ritts, Matthew Rolston, Jock Sturges, Hiroshi Watanabe, and Bob Willoughby

According to their Twitter feed, the catalog should be available soon. Oh, if you are a photographer and like to donate, they are still some lots open. Check here.
