Catherine Opie "Twelve Miles to the Horizon" (4/24)

In the summer of 2009, Opie traveled aboard a container ship en route from Korea to Long Beach. She documented the voyage in a series of time-based photographs that captured each sunrise and sunset for the ten-day duration of the trip. The works are composed with equal registers of water and sky, broken by a thin center horizon line.

Currently, Catherine Opie is part of the Urban Panoramas exhibition with Soo Kim and Jeff Chien-Hsing Liao @ The Getty until June 6th, 2010. This Thursday (4/22), Virginia Heckert, associate curator of Photographs at The Getty will be giving a gallery talk on Urban Panorama. Meet under the stairs in the Museum Entrance Hall at 1:30 pm.

And if you didn't hear, last month she was named by MOCA as one of the four new board members to its board of trustees. For New York readers, her exhibition "Girlfriends" @ Gladstone Gallery over on W. 24th ends this week.
