Tuesday Briefs

+ Getty Museum received a record number of donated photographs in 2009.

+ Remember that Ovation TV thing I posted last week about photographer Shelby Lee Adams ? He's speaking up in San Francisco Art Institute this week on April 16th.

+ The Brewery Art Walk is this weekend. Go check out Translight Photography Center as they are having an open house. The Brewery Art Walk has a list of participating artists and most have links so you can check out their work. The Art Walk is for two days and runs from 11 am to 6 pm

+ Speaking of Art Walk, the Miracle Mile Art Walk is also coming this Saturday from noon to 10 pm. From 1-2:30 @ The Loft at Liz's will present "Diversity in Development" luncheon and photo talk. You'll need to rsvp to jason@theloftatlizs.com. At 2:30 pm at Fahey/Klein, David Fahey will give a talk and tour of the current Legends of Jazz Photography/Jim Marshall exhibition. At 5 pm, photographer Helen Garber will be giving an art talk of her work @ DNJ Gallery. From 6-10 pm is an opening reception of Student Photography Competition Exhibition @ Creative Photography Workshop.

+ Local magazine 944 Files for Bankruptcy

+ If you like looking through vintage photographs, Flickr just added Jewish Historical Society of the Upper Midwest and the Upper Arlington Archives to The Commons. Originally it was launched in 2008 in partnership with The Library of Congress to increase access to publicly-held collections of photographs. Two of my favorite local archives here in LA are of course the USC Digital Archives and the UCLA Digital Collection that includes of 6,000 images from the Los Angeles Times. If you have time, check out those two archives.
