Thursday Random Briefs

+ Ugh ! I can't help but go back to light-test.com where photographers post up their light tests ....with usually their assistants as stand-ins ! I mention this site a few weeks ago but today had an itching to go back and see what new additions are up ! Oh yeah, reminds me of the good ol' days of assisting !

+ Hey, if you happen to be downtown tonight (Thursday 7/23), then swing over to MOCA where Associate Curator Bennett Simpson leads a walkthrough of the Robert Frank exhibition currently on display there. Free. 6:30-8 pm. INFO

+ Meanwhile Aline Smithson's blog Lenscratch has her tribute to Julius Schulman.

+ Tonight is that Tony Duran talk that I've been harping on all week. Gonna try to make it to this one. Besides, I'm curious to see Screaming Broccoli's new digs :) Doors at 7 pm. $20/$10 students

+ Oh, Future Shoot has an interview with Hugh Kretschmer. Hugh as you remember, just had his opening reception a few weeks back at the new Clark/Oshin Gallery @ The Icon. That exhibit runs till Sept 14.

+ And over at American Suburb X, they posted "Words by Henri Cartier-Bresson (1973)".

"The most difficult thing for me, that’s a portrait. It’s very difficult. It’s a question mark you put on somebody trying to say, who is it, what does it amount to, what’s the significance of that face? And the difference between a portrait and a snap shot is that a portrait is a person agreed to be photographed. It’s not at all like somebody you see, you catch in the street, up like this."
