Tuesday Random Briefs

+ Over at the Norton Simon museum, they have an exhibition up "Exceptionally Gifted: Recent Donations to the Norton Simon Museum (2002–2008)". they have over 160 new works up and included are some photographs from the 60s & 70s. The event is FREE and goes on until August 31st. LINK

+ Uh-oh, trouble at Gallery Row in Downtown LA. Three galleries : the Pharmaka gallery, L.A. Center for Digital Art and El Nopal Press were served eviction notice - to be vacated by September. "It's a shock -- the Fifth Street gallery scene is the heart of the Art Walk," Shane Guffogg, Pharmaka's owner-manager says. "If it ceases it will dissipate the Art Walk and inevitably effect traffic and the downtown economy.". I wonder how this will affect future Downtown Art Walks.

+ Oh, if you happen to be in DC, over at the National Portrait Museum there's a series up "Portraiture Now: Feature Photography ". I was in DC over the weekend and wander in. Photographers include : Katy Grannan, Jocelyn Lee, Ryan McGinley, Steve Pyke, Martin Schoeller and Alec Soth. I've seen many of the images online before but it is another thing to see them in front of you. It runs till Sept.27, 2009. Admission is FREE :)

+ Found a new blog : The OC Art Blog. Good for keeping up with what's up in the OC.

+ Also, I stumbled up Lens Culture's Audio archive of the many photographers they've interview over the years. You can stream for free :) Looks like I got something new to listen to this weekend ;)

+ Finally, world's largest photo book : 133 pounds, and costs $30,000 !
