Image 09 Call for Entries / APA "Competitions that Count"

Discovered this one while flipping through After Capture (AC) magazine. Looks like ASMP NY is sponsoring a competition called "Image 09" and submissions are encouraged from professionals, amateurs and students that reside in the US. The image has to be taken after Jan 1st, 2008.

Entry fee is $25(ASMP)/$35(non) and for students $15 (ASMP)/$25(non)

Judges :
Sonja Gill, Associate Photo Editor, Rolling Stone Magazine
Brett Ramey, Photo Director, Elle Magazine
Daniella Nilva-Cunningham, Sr. Photo Manager, VH-1
Mike MacNeill, Creative Director, Publicis
Michael Mazzeo, Gallerist, Michael Mazzeo Gallery

Usually I spend a nice chunk of dough on photo competitions but learn to limit myself to a select few. After looking through the judges in this one, I'm willing to toss $35 or more on this one.

Oh, there's over $25,000 in prizes and the winners get their image published in PDN, publication of winning image in 2,000 mailers targeting very important people, and an exhibit in a gallery. There's a list of sponsors on their page : Modern Postcards,CSI Rentals, Adobe, etc. I get a feeling that the winners will get something from the sponsors though not exactly sure what.

Due date : May 1st.

Well, if you're not exactly sure which ones to enter, then APA has an event coming up just about this called "Competition That Count". Join APA/LA along with Hossein Farmani (Founder, Lucie Awards), Susan Baraz (Head of Judging, IPA), Kathleen Clark (former LA Times Photo Editor) and Steven Churchill as they talk about what's the best course of action.

If you are an APA memeber, this event is free. ASMP/LADIG/Julia Dean/students get in for $10 and all others $15.
