Profoto's Assistant

Weird, Profoto has a site called ProfotoAssistant.com where they list events, video clips and so forth....and they even got a contest called "Stake Your Claim to Fame" which you can win $10,000 in Profoto Gear (what is that, one pack and one head ?)

Now, it sounds like a revolving monthly contest. So you enter up to five images per month. Photos are judged online by the community (only one vote per month per username) Top ten highest number of votes will then go to a panel of judges of review.

All the month's winners are automatically entered to win the grand prize of $10,000 in Profoto gear.Second is $5,000 and third is $2,500.

I have no idea how long this will go for and details are a bit sketchy on their site www.profotoassistant.com/

Now one of the catch :

Each photograph or series of photographs must be accompanied by a brief statement describing how the Pro-8a Air 2400 or Pro-8a Air 1200 enabled you to produce the image(s).

What, you are REQUIRED to use a Pro-8a 2400/1200 ?

Anyways, for us, LA folks, they are doing an event over at Smashbox in WeHo on March 11th from noon to 9 pm. Capacity is 300 and I believe this is be a demo thing.

Assistants are invited to attend a reception and studio shooting session where they can use and learn about the latest Profoto gear, especially the Pro-8a Air.

I'm not really getting the full picture from their site - perhaps there's a Quixote/Smashbox person who happen to know something more about the event next Wed like to chime in ? I know some of y'all read this blog !
